Domaine Gérard Courbis, located in Mauves near the Cornas border, remains a family legacy after Gérard's recent passing. Now managed by his sons, Ludovic and Emmanuel, the estate continues to craft wines that embody the traditional, elegant style of the Northern Rhône, characterized by their freshness, aromatic complexity, and delightful savory notes.
Cornas
Presentation: The grapes come from the producer's youngest vines, but on the steepest slopes, resulting in a rich and ripe wine with mineral tension and a fresh, intoxicating acidity.
Terroir: A single plot, 125 to 400 meters long, on a steep 60% slope composed of decomposed granite and silt deposits.
Harvest: Hand-harvested, sorted, and fully destemmed. Sustainable and non-mechanized farming due to the steep topography.
Winemaking: Traditional vinification in stainless steel tanks with temperature-controlled fermentation. Extended post-fermentation maceration in tanks for at least four weeks.
Aging: Aged in 600-liter barrels, a mix of new and used, for 24 months. Bottled without fining or very light filtration.
