A relatively new & exciting Barolo estate based in Grinzane Cavour, Bruna Grimaldi & her husband Franco took over from her parents Giovanni & Clara in the 1990s; Giovanni had joined his father supplying the local mkt while Clara (nata Scarzello) came from Serralunga d'Alba, bringing with her the top cru Badarina. Today Bruna & Franco are joined by their two talented children, Simone (since 2014) & Martina (2018). Their c. 15ha vineyards cover five comunes: Grinzane Cavour, Roddi, Verduno, La Morra, & Serralunga d'Alba, from which they produce four Barolos; one traditional blend, & two or three single vineyard expressions depending on the vintage. They also produce a fruity Barbera d'Alba, a cool Dolcetto, a fine Nebbiolo, & Langhe Arneis.
Their single Serralunga d'Alba cru of Badarina lies across the road/ridge from crus Francia & Boscareto, among the highest vineyards in the comune at c. 450m asl; Badarina however faces ESE capturing the morning light. In exceptional years they harvest the central S facing Vigna Regnola that lies in the heart of Badarina. But not in 2022, when they decided to blend all the fruit together to make one Barolo Badarina. Aged for 30 mths in bottle grande.
