From the Barbaresco village of San Rocco Seno d'Elvio & specifically from the cru Rocche Massalupo, on talc white Serravallian-Tortonian soils, Manuel Marinacci has been making artisan wines in limited quantities from the single 4ha plot since 2004; only since 2019 has he added a small parcel in the village for making a pretty Langhe Nebbiolo. The range is completed by an old vine Dolcetto, & robust, cement-vinified Barbera d'Alba.
The sinewy 2021 vintage Rocche Massalupo benefitted from a small proportion of stalks added to the ferment, followed by extended ageing for three years in 25HL botte grande, to give a wine that's aromatically engaging as well as elegant.
