One destination, two unique paths. In 2018, these two paths crossed in a serendipitous meeting between Curt Frasca, an Italian-American entrepreneur, passionate about Barbera and the Nizza Monferrato zone, and Matteo Gerbi, an esteemed local winemaker.
Born and raised in Asti, Matteo’s reputation for producing elegant, terroir-expressive wines comes from his vast experience in some of the Langhe’s most iconic wineries. Now Frasca’s Winemaker and Director, he leads the shared vision of discovering the untapped potential of Barbera and the Nizza Monferrato zone, ultimately paving the way for Frasca La Guaragna.
Our property consists of 22 hectares, embracing the municipalities of Nizza Monferrato, Agliano Terme and Moasca. The heart is La Guaragna Estate, where the new cellar is going to be built.
Our vineyards have been selected with patience to enhance the different characteristics of our territory. We manage them with care and passion, to respect the Earth and Man.

The Montalbera Winery was founded at the beginning of the twentieth century in an area between the municipalities of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato and Montemagno. Towards the mid-eighties, the Morando family adopted a policy of expansion that was not yet completed, with the acquisition of neighboring land and the direct planting of new vineyards, mainly in Ruchè. Today the company is surrounded by its 115 hectares vineyards arranged in a circular shape in a single body in an entirely hilly position, with different exposures and soils ranging from clayey to limestone. The Morando family has its roots in the Langhe and this bond could not fail to be expressed in the vineyard and in the cellar. Castiglione Tinella, the place of origin of the founder Enrico Riccardo Morando, is home to about 10 hectares of vineyards planted with Moscato d'Asti. And it is from these vineyards that Montalbera produces Moscato d'Asti DOCG San Carlo, which takes its name from the ancient church of San Carlo, which is located a few meters from the birthplace of the family founder.
Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG is a wine with an unmistakable character; The pleasant floral hints of rose and violet, the fruity notes of apricot and the spiciness that emerges with evolution make it immediately recognizable in the glass. Montalbera has always believed in Ruchè and its uniqueness. For this reason, the company has chosen to invest in research capable of tracing the genetic license of a grape variety with uncertain origins and often placed next to other varieties that are actually very distant in terroir and expression. The aim of the work (carried out by the Bioaesis laboratory in Ancona) was to use DNA as an invisible barcode to determine the genetic traceability of the grape variety.
All the analyses carried out confirmed that Ruchè has its own characteristic genetic structure and different from the other varieties of vines in the databases.
Nowadays the winery is run by the third generation Franco Morando and the total production counts around 500 000 bottles of the highest quality wines. The wine portfolio comprises the Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG as the 60% of its wine range, the Nizza DOCG, the Barbera d’Asti superiore DOCG, the Grignolino d’Asti DOC, the Barolo DOCG, the Barbaresco DOCG, the Piemonte DOC Viognier, Timorasso DOC Derthona, as well as the sparkling wines both in Charmat and classical method wines, the sweet wines of Passito of Ruche and Moscato d’Asti DOCG.
The Azienda Agricola MONTARIBALDI is a family company, located in the heart of the Langhe hills, in the cozy town of Barbaresco.
Our winery makes some of the most famous and prestigious wines from Piedmont region: Barbaresco DOCG, Barolo DOCG, Barbera d’Alba DOC, Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Roero Arneis, are only few examples.
However, what deeply distinguishes our winery from others is not only the complete wine portfolio very typical of our terroir, nor the enviable location, nor the passion which with we have been working in our vineyards for three generations.
What distinguishes us, first and foremost, is our company philosophy.
What makes us making VINEYARD WINES.
VINEYARD WINES means making wines which:
Deeply represent their origins
Each wine must clearly remind its terroir, both in terms of grape variety (our portfolio is almost totally made up of indigenous grape varieties), and in terms of their organoleptic profile.
Deeply represent us
Every time someone taste a Montaribaldi wine he/she has to immediately perceive the unique style, the passion with which it has been made, and the constant quality over the years.
Are eco-sustainable
The environment which surrounds us is, for us, a priceless treasure. Of course, from the ethical point of view, but also from the economic one: without the Langhe, Roero and Asti soils and species which populate these areas, it would have been impossible for us to make such unique wines. This is the reason why we are always very attentive to the sustainability of our production and to the environmental protection.
Deeply represent their vineyards
We are committed to producing each of our wines with grapes coming from one or more dedicated vineyards. This means that when you taste one of our wines, it recalls neither only Piedmont nor only the production area (Barbaresco, Barolo, etc.), but it clearly identifies that single and particular vineyard it comes from. Consider that if the organoleptic profile of the wine in the glass is fascinating and satisfying, that is firstly thanks to the vineyard itself and to the way the producer has been working in it.
However, depending on the conditions and the characteristics of each harvest, the production destination of the picked grapes may vary slightly depending on the vintage, so that the wines are always and only the best possible expression of the daily work we do in our vineyards throughout the year.
EN - Ours is a family of winemakers for 4 generations. Our estates are located in the heart of Piedmont, in the Langhe, where we cultivate with respect and dedication the main Piedmontese varieties: dolcetto, barbera and nebbiolo, to which have been added, in recent years, international varieties such as chardonnay and pinot noir, which cultivated in certain conditions of altitude (700 m above sea level) have proven to give us wines with a distinct freshness and identity.
Our daily goal is to safeguard and enhance our territory with our work and to tell, through our wines, our family history, our traditions and the beauty of the places we are lucky enough to inhabit.
The winery San Silvestro is located in Novello, in the heart of Barolo district. Here, Paolo and Guido Sartirano rule the businness with wisdom and respect for the tradition and for the history of this company. They represent the fourth generation and want to be respectful towards the work their family did to be where they are today. Investments for the future with a keen eye on values they’ve learned from their ancestors: consistency, authenticity and innovation. Each glass embodies these three principles to return wines that reflect the uniqueness of this great area. Working closely with grapegrowers from different wine-areas, San Silvestro offers a range of wines that go from Gavi to Barbaresco through Asti and Barolo districts.
Marchesi di Grésy has long been recognised as one of Piemonte's top producers, owning 45 hectares of vineyards across Langhe and Monferrato, and the Monopole of Martinenga cru in Barbaresco. In 1973 Alberto di Grésy began making wines under the di Grésy name - vinifying their own estate grapes, that previously were sold at an auction to other famous producers. He knew very well the greatness of his vineyards, and his philosophy has always been to respect it, letting the class and finesse of his unique terroir express in the bottle, through precise and essential vinification. In 2013, his children, Alessandro and Ludovica, joined him to manage all aspects of the family estate.
Villadoria is a winery run by the Lanzavecchia family for four generations. For the family making wine is a profession, an art, an inheritance. The family owns around 20 hectares of vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba. In 1959 Pietro Lanzavecchia founded Cantine Villadoria. In its more than 60 years of history Villadoria has pursued its commitment to the growth of its mission to make wine. Solid roots in tradition with an open eye towards the future knowing how to renew and grow. Today the company is run by the third and fourth generation together, Daniele Lanzavecchia and his daughter Paola. Our vineyards are our most important heritage. Mostly planted to Nebbiolo for Barolo, they stretch out along the western slopes of the Serralunga d’Alba hills, in the quality wine area par excellence. Villadoria wines are the expression of the territory and tradition.
For us every wine is a real project. Classic wines are the proud heirs of a territory. An ancient, noble tradition which has put quality as its undisputed goal. Constant attention to the care of the vineyard, and the vinification process, starting from the careful choice of the harvest time. Work in the cellar, ageing, and finally bottling are also carried out with extreme care and attention to details, keeping in mind that wine is a demanding, living product. Our reference grape variety is certainly Nebbiolo, which manifests its maximum expression in our Barolo wines. We carefully select the grapes from the famous and perfectly located vineyards of our estate in Serralunga d'Alba.
Our production also presents two other typical varieties of Piedmont, Barbera and Dolcetto.
Our wines tell a story that renovates every year and respects the cycle of nature and tradition.
