Once arrives at Mansalto one immediately thinks of "a world apart." This is in fact the impression one gets when visiting the 2,000 hectares in a single body that stretch across the territory of four municipalities: Castelnuovo Berardenga, Bucine, Rapolano Terme and Monte San Savino, and two provinces (Siena and Arezzo). The more than pristine environment is little man-made. Woods cover about two-thirds of the area and incorporate a historically minority and discrete human presence.
Vineyards (60 hectares total, 40 of which are in full production) and olive groves (55 hectares) are nestled among holm oaks, chestnut trees, heather and wild forest. If we also consider the average elevation of 500 meters, with peaks of over 600, we can understand what the character of the wines and oil produced here can be.
The first element to consider is the great biodiversity in which the crops grow. This is a source of complexity for the products of the earth.
The second is the non-intensive situation of cultivation guaranteed by the impressive area of forests compared to cultivated land: this gives healthiness to the products and the need for less care than intensive cultivation.
The third element is the composition of the soil, rich in rocks such as Galestro and Alberese, typical of the Tuscan Macigno.
Finally, again the forest and the altitude which together create a very special microclimate and favor the night/day temperature range giving aromatic intensity to the products of this land.
The wines in production are, to date:
1.Cortinova IGT Toscana Chardonnay, single varietal, a wine of rare minerality and floral character.
2.La Commenda Chianti Superiore DOCG, based on Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine of immediate pleasantness and easy pairing.
3.Castello Rapale Igt Toscana red obtained with a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes combined with 40% Sangiovese and Merlot expertly aged in wood to achieve a complexity unique in the style of a Tuscan wine.
4.Stroncoli, Igt Toscana Rosso made from a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot aged in larger woods to maintain typical varietal expressions.
5.Butia, Igt Toscana Sangiovese, the highest expression of the estate's Sangiovese, carefully selected from the vineyard of the same name, which stands out for its elegance and savoriness.
6. Palazzuolo Sparkling Rosé, our Sangiovese sparkling wine made with the charmat method, fresh, floral with clear notes of wild strawberry.
All these wines carry imprinted the character of the lands from which they come with saltiness, harmony and complexity, elements easily recognizable even at the first taste.
Equally interesting is Mansalto's Extra Virgin Olive Oil IGP Toscano produced by cold pressing olives of the proprietary Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo and Correggiolo varieties. Mansalto is a flavorful, elegant and complex oil that surprises both in its ability to enhance the quality of the foods it accompanies and in its ability to get consumers to agree.
The last chapter of this splendid reality is the hospitality offered by the two Villas and three Borghi owned for a total of more than 120 beds that lend themselves well to teambuilding activities with our partners.
