Tuscany is famously the land of spectacular landscapes and fine wine, but Castello del Terriccio is truly a hidden gem within this region, and a delight to all five senses.
From the estates 1,500 ha of rolling forests, fields of golden grain and vine rows, you can look out over a sapphire sea all the way to Corsica. A symphony of cicadas, hoopoes and the whisper of the sea breeze delights the ears, while the sun caresses your skin. The eucalyptus trees, wild herbs, blackcurrants and warm spices leap out of a glass of Lupicaia, the flagship red wine of the estate. On the palate this incredibly long-lived wine, is elegantly balanced, complex and a true reflection of how well Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot grow in the area. This boutique winery only produces five wines: one white (Con Vento) and four reds (Tassinaia, Castello del Terriccio, Lupicaia and Gian Annibale), internationally recognized as some of the best so called “super-tuscans”.
Nestled along the coastal hills between Pisa and Bolgheri, this is an estate which is rare to come across now: privately owned, where each wine reflects the passion and love of the owner, Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano Rossi di Medelana.
The castle, a fortified homestead, had already made a name for itself in the 13th century with consistent demographic growth, and, in 1278, there were reportedly 150 families.
After depending on the Abbey of Sant’Antimo for a period of time, during the year 1200 Camigliano was lured into the orbit of Siena, and, in the following years, the heads of some of the most important families (Gallerani, Bonsignori) carried out a great newly-noble patrimonial expansion destined to displace the lay people and clergy and to suppress the growing success of the small country property.
Noble presence is felt even in Camigliano which passes under the authority of these families for many years in the 13th century, but the fact remains that the local community would never disappear from the populous Castle of Camigliano, where a strong rural component seems to have maintained its own vitality for some centuries.
The current manor house was built inside the entry gate (called “Borgone”) of the old “castle” making the most of the ancient walls that surrounded the homestead. The symbol of Camigliano: the camel, found on a seal dating to the 13th century, can perhaps be connected to the influence of the papacy in the area, and there is speculation of connection to the movements of the Crusades that reached the Holy Land.A MAGICAL PLACE TO MATURE AND TASTE THE WINE
Its realization was possible with an old invasive artifact demolition, that suffocated the ancient town square, obtaining a significant improvement of its architectural structure and opening it to the surrounding landscape with a large terrace.
The interior is divided into two levels: the first equipped with thermo-conditioned 97-122 hl stainless steel vats and the second, lower down and underground, with the 60 hl French oak barrel department. selected according to the wine produced in the specific vintage and latest generation concrete vats. The remaining surface, adequately separated, is occupied by the storage of wines and bottling area.
The harvest is carried out by hand, and the wine through oshillys method is conveyed into the vats by gravity without use of pumps.
The ancient tasting cellar, under the walls of the village, with exposed beams and stone walls, offers ample space for wine tasting, and also, if desired, it can be a place for meditation to savor the different vintages of Brunello and understand its visual, olfactory and gustatory evolution over the years.

History and innovation go hand in hand for Cantine Statti, a historic company from Lamezia Terme that has its roots in the area since the century XV.
Over the centuries, the noble family has held prestigious roles in the society, having an important influence on the economy of the city.
Since 1800, the family of Statti Baron started the agriculture business in their flourishing land located in the heart of Lamezia DOC. The wine of Lamezia has always been famous and its history is linked to the names of the grapes imported here by the Phoenician and the Greek: Gaglioppo, Magliocco, Mantonico, Greco Bianco and Greco Nero, grapes of irreplaceable heritage of sensations, perfumes and tastes of this land.
Since the 90s the brothers Alberto and Antonio Statti are running the ancient winery tradition that develops on 500 hectares: they cultivate more than 500 hectares of land and produces excellent wine and high quality extra vergin olive oil, citrus fruits and milk (with more than 300 cattles).
The activity therefore ranges from olive growing to viticulture, from citrus growing to animal husbandry and thanks to biogas, also to agro-energy. The particular attention to the environment through the use of cutting-edge renewable energy, unique in our region, makes all Statti green and eco-friendly products.
From cultivation to the cellar all production processes exclude the use of any substance of animal origin. The high quality is always the same, but the intention and attention in its certification are different: a healthy wine, coming from healthy vines and in balance with the ecosystem and biodiversity that surrounds them.
Particularity: Statti cellars is among the few Italian companies, and not only, to have the trigeneration plant: that is, the co-generators that take the hot air of biogas transform it into cold water to be sent to the cellar in the steel vats to cool temperature controlled wine
This is the will and the philosophy of Statti company: respect of the roots and witness of the future in self-proposing. Prestigious wines, sincere interpreters of the most precious and incomparable grapes always distinguished by a soul really bound to this incomparable land.
