In 2013, guided by a bold vision, Mr. Shi Yuzhu acquired Château Plain Point with a singular ambition: to reveal the full brilliance of this hidden gem in the Fronsac appellation and establish it among the most prestigious estates in Bordeaux. Over a decade of meticulous work has since transformed the estate—an endeavor grounded in excellence, innovation, and deep respect for its centuries-old heritage.
Set atop a hill overlooking the Fronsac plateaus, Château Plain Point is a place of enchantment where vineyards coexist with groves and orchards. Its name, Plain Point, derived from Roman times, means "The Summit"—a fitting title for a domain now producing wines of remarkable character and finesse.
Since 2013, the estate has undergone an extensive transformation.
Forty hectares were uprooted and replanted with precisely chosen grape varieties and rootstocks, while neighboring parcels of exceptional terroir were acquired to further enrich the vineyard. By 2018, these efforts began to bear fruit—literally and figuratively—revealing the distinct identity of its complex soils: blue clay, asteriated limestone, and Fronsadais molasse. The result: wines of rare purity and expressive depth.
Designed by architect Olivier Chadebost and built into the hillside, the new winery fully embraces the natural topography with a 15-meter elevation drop that enables gravity-flow winemaking.
Equipped with 87 bespoke vats—crafted from concrete, wood, and stainless steel—the facility allows for parcel-by-parcel vinification, unlocking the unique expression of each plot. Partially underground, the winery benefits from naturally regulated temperatures ideal for both vinification and aging.
Château Plain Point has opened its doors to the public with a newly dedicated space for wine tourism, designed to share its savoir-faire and storied past.
Highlights include:
With the goal of becoming a must-visit destination in Bordeaux, the estate is poised to welcome 100,000 visitors per year.
To reflect its rebirth, Château Plain Point has unveiled a new visual identity. The emblem, inspired by a centuries-old coat of arms engraved in the château’s stone walls, evokes both the majesty of the surrounding landscape and the presence of the nearby Isle and Dordogne rivers.
The new bottle design, sleek and distinctive, honors the architecture of the château. Its signature terracotta red hue and elongated "T"—a nod to a label from 1690—imbue the design with a sense of timeless elegance.
Rooted in its values, Château Plain Point is proudly committed to sustainable development.
This transformation is more than a renovation—it is the realization of a vision. A place where time, craftsmanship, and passion intersect, where every detail has been considered to preserve the estate’s soul while ushering in a new era.
Today, Château Plain Point invites visitors to experience an exceptional vineyard, taste wines of extraordinary precision, and enjoy a moment suspended in time.
The story of Château Plain Point continues—with the same ambition and unwavering dedication: to reveal the very best of this extraordinary terroir.
