It’s with that cherished tradition in mind that Bulbash, a leading Belarusian vodka and spirits manufacturer, goes about its business, striving at each step of the production process to make high-quality beverages that serve not only to reinforce, but also boost the country’s reputation for excellence in the industry.
Over the past two decades, since its founding in 2004, Bulbash has succeeded in doing just that, winning the hearts not just of consumers in Belarus, but supplying products in more than 30 countries around the world.
At Vinexpo Asia in Hong Kong this year, visitors have the chance to taste some of Bulbash’s award-winning products, including its premium-line Bulbash №1, named in various national competitions as the best vodka in Belarus.
It’s a long trip to Hong Kong — all the way from a village about 30 kilometres northwest of Minsk — but one that is well worth it for the team from Bulbash, who are happy to be presenting their varied product line and sharing some insights into how the company operates and continues to grow.
Bulbash takes pride, for example, in its location, away from the hustle and bustle of the capital city, and with access to its very own, 100-metre deep artesian well.
The water the company uses in its closed-loop production cycle is excellent, in other words, as are the carefully selected, all-natural ingredients that go into their classic vodkas, gins, liqueurs and original-recipe infusions. Those ingredients include several types of grain, malt, herbs, berries, nuts and spices. Despite the extra costs involved, Bulbash refuses to use any artificial colourings, preservatives or flavour enhancers.
Those choices speak to the company’s respect for tradition: Bulbash, as explained on its website, wants to make “time-honoured Belarusian beverages”.
And yet, Bulbash is also determined to be a modern, forward-looking company, and part of that means using new technologies. A case in point is the solar battery that Bulbash uses to power a portion of its distillery operations and thus reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
The end result is a total production capacity of more than 30 million bottles per year, with some of that output going to partner companies.
The Bulbash team, which includes more than 420 high-qualified professionals in the fields of production, sales and product promotion, takes pride in offering its partners favourable cooperation terms, including the development of private labels, or PLMs. They also assist on the design end, helping partner companies improve their own brand visibility.
Still, nothing says Bulbash like the Bulbash-brand beverages themselves. There’s Bulbash №1, of course, the company’s flagship product. But also the rich and creamy Bulbash Alta, which received a Silver Medal at the London Spirits Competition in 2023, and Bulbash Nano, made using nano-filtration technology.
Other products in their line include Bulbash Original, a classic vodka with grain oat infusion, raisins and honey; and Bulbash’s award-winning GreenLine, made with wild redberry and Birch leaves.
Bulbash makes several liqueurs as well, with traditional Belarusian flavours, and a variety of limited-edition vodkas, released with unique packaging and flavours for special occasions such as Christmas or certain sporting events.
