Italy
The Lamborghini Estate is set in the heart of Umbria, nestled between the gentle southern slopes of Lake Trasimeno and the charming medieval village of Panicale. Located on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, it enjoys a privileged position just a short distance from Cortona and the picturesque Val di Chiana.
The estate was purchased in the late 1960s by Ferruccio Lamborghini who, while traveling through this enchanting countryside, fell deeply in love with its landscape — at once rugged and gentle.
As a young man, Ferruccio had never imagined becoming a farmer. His father owned a farm and hoped he would continue the family tradition, but Ferruccio had different dreams: he was fascinated by invention and driven by a great passion for mechanics. While the world knows what he accomplished in the automotive industry, few are aware of what happened in Panicale in 1968, when he purchased this estate.
Here, Ferruccio felt a powerful and almost inexplicable connection to the land. It was as if he had returned to his origins, rediscovering the essence of agriculture. From that moment on, leaving behind the famous automotive business, he dedicated himself tirelessly to the estate. He personally oversaw its expansion, planted vineyards and transformed the property into one of the most modern wine-producing estates in Italy for its time.
Today the estate covers approximately 100 hectares, including a 9-hole golf course, a charming resort and 38 hectares dedicated to vineyards.
From the very beginning, a variety of both red and white grapes were planted. Alongside traditional varieties such as Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, Ferruccio also chose grapes that were quite innovative for the time, including Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the mid-1990s, Patrizia Lamborghini took over the management of the estate, continuing — and further strengthening — her father’s ambition to produce wines of the highest quality. Since then, most of the vineyards have been replanted, with a focus on varieties such as Sangiovese, Merlot and Grechetto.
Today, 34 hectares are planted with selected clones, and the current development plan already includes the replanting of the remaining four hectares.
An unwavering pursuit of quality, the desire to express the unique character of the territory, and the expert oenological guidance of Riccardo Cotarella have led to a profound transformation of the estate, with a clear goal: the production of wines of the highest excellence.
