La Lomellina di Gavi is a historic Piedmontese estate whose origins date back to the 17th century, when the Genoese Lomellini family built the villa that still dominates the property today. Viticultural activity began in 1816 and, over the generations, the estate became a benchmark for Gavi, thanks in part to the contribution of Marchese Edilio Raggio, a key figure in the enhancement of the Cortese grape. Today, the estate is owned by Dr. Carlo Bonomi, one of the most prominent global entrepreneurs of our time, and his wife Emanuela Croce Raggio, granddaughter of Marchese Raggio.
La Lomellina operates through two sites: the historic headquarters in Gavi and a second estate in Serralunga d’Alba, in the Meriame area, one of the most renowned cru for Barolo.
The property covers around 20 hectares, where calcareous-marl soils, hillside elevation, and marine influences create ideal conditions for Cortese, giving the wines freshness, finesse, and pronounced minerality.
Vineyard management is carried out with the utmost respect for the land, through manual practices and rigorous grape selection. In the cellar, modern and carefully controlled techniques enhance the natural elegance of Gavi DOCG, a wine of remarkable aromatic purity and strong typicity.
The expansion into the Langhe has also enabled the estate to focus on Nebbiolo, producing characterful wines such as Barolo Meriame, a complex and long-lived expression that captures the essence of one of Piedmont’s most prestigious terroirs.
By combining tradition, history, and innovation, La Lomellina continues to affirm its dedication to quality and its ability to authentically interpret the great terroirs of Piedmont.
