The De Bortoli family story is one of determination and triumph that started 90 years ago in war-torn Europe and is now told, generations later, across Australia.
De Bortoli’s heritage encompasses the universal story of immigrants making good in an adopted land, the rise and rise of the Australian wine industry and the tale of a hardworking and innovative family who considers good wine, good food and good friends to be among the true pleasures in life.
Situated on fertile volcanic soils of Colbinabbin, within the Heathcote region, Ellis Wines began its life in 1999, when Bryan and Joy Ellis planted the very first vines.
Strategically positioned to harness the natural environment, Ellis Wines planted its vines facing North to South, allowing the cool winds to lower the temperature, in turn producing succulent grapes that capture the perfect level of acidity. Until 2009 Ellis Wines sold its highly coveted produce to numerous wineries across the state of Victoria, before founding Ellis Wines as the brand which is recognised today. Still family-owned and -operated more than twenty years since its inception, Ellis Wines’ empire has expanded from its initial 25-acres to an impressive 129-acres of land, with a yield of approximately 34-tonnes of wine each year. Paying homage to those who have contributed to making Ellis Wines what it is today, each subsequent plot of land added to Ellis Wines’ empire is named after one of its beloved family members.
Primarily specialising in Shiraz, but also Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Rosé, Viognier and Moscato, Ellis Wines utilises its extensive experience and knowledge to produce exquisite wines across its large acreage.
The company’s ample experience in producing grapes of exceptional quality has allowed Ellis Wines to go from strength to strength. In addition to the myriad of prestigious awards and accolades the team has been awarded, Ellis Wines is also incredibly proud to be a 5-star rated winery in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion, as well as placing in the Top 10 Dark Horse Wineries in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion. Housing numerous award-winning wines like its 2016 Premium Shiraz, which was awarded Gold at the 2019 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards and was among the Best of the Best by Variety in the 2021 Halliday Wine Companion. Barossan brothers John and James Lienert have transformed the family farm on Barossa’s western edge into a viticultural wonderland. The role of maker has fallen to James, as has grower to John. A symbiotic coupling of siblings sharing a simple approach to growing grapes and making wine. Promoting the wellbeing of their vineyards through regenerative agriculture and a wholistic commitment to sustainability, Lienert Vineyards have positioned themselves as leaders in promoting diversity of clonal expression across Barossa’s heritage varieties whilst expanding their portfolio to include Malbec, Roussanne, Piqpoul and Fiano. In 2023, they purchased the historic 'Summers Vineyard' at Eden Valley which includes established plantings of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling.
Lienert Vineyards is emblematic of all that is good and exciting about Australia’s best known wine region.
As a winemaker for over 30 years, John’s winemaking has been awarded some of Australia’s greatest accolades including both the Jimmy Watson and Stodart Trophies. International and Australian Wine Show Judge, John’s experience and passion drove him to develop a range of wines that truly reflected what he loved in great wines; down to earth, full of character and approachable are attributes that are both characteristic of both the winemaking style and the winemaker himself.

A family-owned business, Shadowfax winery was
established in 1998 by Mark Robertson and Stewart
Langton and is located just 30 kilometres from Melbourne
in the heart of Werribee Park.
Contemporary in design and function, Shadowfax’s unique
architecture (designed by award-winning architects Wood
Marsh) reflects an attempt to create a harmony between
the winery and its natural surroundings. Its rusted sheet
metal exterior, and its terracotta interior, evokes the best
of our Australian wine heritage.
Headed by chief winemaker Alister Timms, Shadowfax’s
wines are made onsite at their winery in Werribee
Park, which are left undisturbed in the specially built
underground barrel hall to quietly mature and evolve.
Shadowfax also offers visitors the opportunity to taste the
wines, purchase from the cellar door or enjoy a leisurely
meal in the 80-seat restaurant.
Consistently rated a five-star winery by Halliday,
Shadowfax’s wines have a strong focus on regionality
with most of its fruit produced from its vineyards in the
Macedon Ranges and Werribee.
