The Zoetendal Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a cool-climate, barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc that reflects the maritime influence and distinctive terroir of the southernmost reaches of the Agulhas region. Sourced from a single 1.3-hectare vineyard planted in 2005, the site consistently delivers low yields of between 4 to 8 tons per hectare, depending on the vintage, contributing to the wine’s concentration, purity, and distinctive sense of place.
Matured for 6 to 8 months in French oak barrels: 20% new and 80% older oak, the wine is crafted to preserve freshness and varietal purity, while achieving texture, balance, and elegance through subtle wood integration.
On the nose, the wine reveals lifted herbal aromatics of fresh-cut grass, wild herbs, nettle, and crushed gooseberry, beautifully layered with oyster shell minerality and a saline sea-breeze character synonymous with the cool Agulhas coastline. Subtle oak influence adds understated notes of lemon curd, toasted almond, and delicate flint without overshadowing the wine’s natural vibrancy. The palate is refined and textured, leaning stylistically toward the elegance and restraint often associated with premium New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc expressions, rather than overt tropical fruit-driven styles more commonly found in South Africa. Bright citrus, green fig, lime zest, and herbaceous nuances are balanced by a rounded mid-palate, where the oak maturation softens the acidity and creates a seamless, creamy mouthfeel.
The finish is long, mineral-driven, and refreshingly saline, lingering with notes of oyster shell, citrus pith, and subtle savoury complexity. A sophisticated and terroir-expressive Sauvignon Blanc that harmoniously balances freshness, texture, and coastal minerality.
