Domaine Gérard Courbis, located in Mauves near the Cornas border, remains a family legacy after Gérard's recent passing. Now managed by his sons, Ludovic and Emmanuel, the estate continues to craft wines that embody the traditional, elegant style of the Northern Rhône, characterized by their freshness, aromatic complexity, and delightful savory notes.
Saint-Joseph rouge
Presentation: From the granite slopes of the southern Saint-Joseph appellation, this 100% Syrah red wine delicately expresses the authentic character of the Northern Rhône. The 2014 vintage, carefully vinified at Domaine Gérard Courbis, reveals a dark color with purple highlights, promising intensity.
Terroir: The estate benefits from a clay-limestone and granite terroir, ideal for expressing the Syrah grape. 70% granite, 30% clay-limestone.
Harvest: Hand-harvested, sorted, and fully destemmed. Sustainable and non-mechanized farming practices are employed due to the steep topography.
Winemaking: Winemaking takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with maceration lasting 12 to 15 days. The vinification temperature is controlled at 30-32°C, ensuring maximum color extraction. Maceration lasts twelve to fifteen days.
Aging: The aging process lasts approximately 14 months, with 20% in vats and 80% in oak barrels (55-60% of which are 2-3 year old barrels).
