A year after receiving the Badajoz Entrepreneur of the Year award, Pedro Mercado, head of Pago Los Balancines, reflects on a year marked by brand consolidation, a revamped image, and the expansion of his wine tourism project in Mérida. Without obsessing over quantitative growth, the winery has focused its efforts on strengthening its prestige, its commitment to sustainability, and its role as a benchmark for organic wine in Extremadura.
Twelve months have passed since you received the Badajoz Entrepreneur of the Year award. How has your perspective on the business changed since then?
The truth is, there hasn't been a substantial change in perspective, although some elements have shifted in our sector, such as the deepening of changing wine consumption habits, which keeps us on our toes and compels us to focus even more on quality.
The launch of Balancines' new wine tourism projects in Mérida has been a central element of this year, along with the unveiling of the winery's new image and the preparations for our twentieth anniversary.
In terms of growth, what objectives did you set for this year, and to what extent have you achieved them?
This wasn't a year of quantitative growth, but rather one focused on projecting the prestigious and high-quality image that our brand has cultivated for years and which we want to further develop. In this area, we have exceeded our highest expectations this year.
